Bidin’ My Time

CAREGIVING / MUSIC:  Hump day doesn’t mean a lot when you are doing what I’m doing. Part of you is fairly content. The week is going along. There’s a bit of paying work to do. But when things get frustrating you become impatient with the patient. Impatient with time in general. With not knowing what is going to happen next.… Read more →

Out to Lunch

LIFE: Today Kathy and I went out to lunch. To the average person, going out to eat is no big deal. But when you are taking care of someone with Huntington’s or dementia or any number of conditions, going out might be a challenge. Part of it is just fear of the unknown: Will feeding an adult in public make… Read more →

HD-TV: Art Imitates Life

CAREGIVING: Last night we were watching TV. Our usual routine is to watch the news (MSNBC or CNN) before dinner. Then we watch something entertaining on our Roku box before I clean Kathy’s teeth and get her into bed. We got caught up on all the back seasons of Downton Abbey and Foyle’s War that way. CAREGIVING: Kathy has been due to go to the dentist for a while. Her last appointment was in March and they found two fillings that needed to be replaced. The estimate was $600 dollars but when the appointment came there was no way Kathy could keep still long enough to have anything done so I postponed it for a few… Read more →

Crappy Sunday

CAREGIVING: It was a crappy Sunday, in a manner of speaking. I had been feeling crappy (stomach wise) and just felt like relaxing for a change, when I woke up. So I let Kathy sleep a bit too long and she had a little accident. She felt bad. I felt worse because, well, it could have been avoided. So I… Read more →

A Creative Mammogram

CAREGIVING:  I went to my first mammogram today. Well Kathy went for a mammogram, but I was there to help, dressed in lead. I’m not really sure why a radiology office would not be prepared for women in wheelchairs. Women still need mammograms.  Because we didn’t have a chair with dropping arm rests, it was almost a wasted trip. You… Read more →
