CAREGIVING: Happy New Years Eve, so far. I just joined an online Huntington’s Disease Caregiving support group and a post from one of the members brought back a lot of memories about life with a pHD (that’s our code for “person with Huntington’s Disease”). “I seldom post, but have been a member for several years. I do read most everything.… Read more →

Saturday: A reason to skip…
CAREGIVING: Kathy is sleeping after breakfast. I made pancakes with some butternut squash leftover from Christmas dinner. When she was swallowing the last bite she sneezed and that made her inhale a particle of food. She had a short choking episode but she coughed it up. Later, while I was in the basement “doing laundry” I ran out to the… Read more →
’twas the Day After Christmas
CAREGIVING: I am one of those “Glass is rather large for its contents” people. I’m generally cautiously pessimistic. Things go right and wrong, so I try to be prepared. Today Brooke, the nurse from the VNA, came for her weekly visit. She said that no further services would be authorized by Kathy’s health insurance after January 2nd. I’m not totally… Read more →
Last Day for Su
CAREGIVING: Wednesday was Su’s last day. I’m making up the spelling of Su, by the way. Here real name is Suhsien, she is the extroverted health aide from Taiwan. We really enjoyed her help, and her cooking. More importantly Kathy really liked her. She decided to go to a different agency. I’m not sure they actually pay more per hour… Read more →
Dust My Room
CAREGIVING: Thursday Dilcia came back today after a two-week absence. She comes on Thursdays, so she was off on Thanksgiving. Then she was sick last week after and they frown upon sending sneezing workers into the homes of vulnerable seniors held together with duct tape. So the house needed her cleaning attention. I try to keep up with it and Melissa usually… Read more →
Physical Therapy
CAREGIVING: Monday was a good day in the scheme of things. Hardly any coughing. And Kathy was fairly mobile = less heavy lifting for me. I had been a little low on Sunday. I guess I was overwhelmed by everything I had to do. Kathy had had a minor accident (but a shower took care of that). I didn’t feel… Read more →
the Pillar of Pillows — Foe of Phlem
CAREGIVING: Monday Kathy was pretty miserable with her chest congestion and coughing so I cancelled the physical therapist. I tried to get caught up with some of my design work but I got so sidetracked with things here I forgot to send some work I had finished, in to my client. I don’t think I left the house except to go… Read more →
