Under the covers

MUSIC: I’ve been away from the blog for a few days. Mostly I’ve been busy with other stuff. And at night I am trying to get caught up with some music production loose ends. There are always a lot of them for me. I am never satisfied with a mix or a performance. Songs are really organic beings that sound different on different days. And sometimes the charming sound of Marty’s dog tags clanging at the end of a track needs too much explanation.

My current goal is to upload a bunch of cover songs up to a new music site called Loudr.fm. For a guy that thinks of himself as just a songwriter or humorist I have a few covers that I have done. This would all be fine and dandy except that since I don’t have permission to record most of them, I am technically breaking the law even if it is for my charity. Without getting nerdy about copyright law, when I upload to Loudr they will get the license and deduct it from any revenues or royalties I would make from downloads. They are also a digital distributor so they will send it to iTunes and some of the other places like Spotify, I believe. There won’t be much to send to the Huntington’s clinic but at least I won’t get sued by the estate of Lou Reed or George Gershwin.

So I am fine tuning some of these songs so that if someone listens to a bunch of them in a row they all sound about the same volume. Here is a link to a set of covers on SoundCloud.
