I really don’t like asking for money.
I’m not really good at it at all. When I do an estimate for a graphic design project I never guess how long something is really going to take. Well, I never overestimate, at least. I always do what it takes to get it done. Sometimes I am so wrapped up in work, I forget to bill what I’ve done. And calling up after a few months to check on a bill? I hate when that happens.
But raising money for Kathy’s expenses and a memorial celebration has been a labor of love. Many people – friends, family, and folks I haven’t seen for many years have offered to help out. To make giving a little easier, I decided to try “Generosity.com”, a new part of the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com. I have donated to several projects in the past. Most were for music and CD projects. But I also donated to help a political cartoonist and old friend of ours from our Florida days. He was a victim of the decline of newspapers. On Generosity, all the funds go to the person or persons requesting them (with the exception of the usual credit card fees). I decided to try it out. I emailed some friends and family and put it on Facebook. And so far we have raised a good part of what that funeral home charged me. I probably set the goal a little too low but the website won’t let me change it. Another good thing about this site is that even if we fail to reach the goal they will still release the funds.
So, I hope you will check it out and share it. It is called Remembering Kathy Lehndorff. I am figuring out thank you cards and possible thank you gifts now. I hope to raise enough money to stage an exhibit of Kathy’s work, and a celebration of her life with an art opening. I also would like to put together a little mini-catalog of some of her art as well. We’ll see what I can manage. She would have loved to have gone to the opening (as long as it wasn’t about her). So, it should be a fun celebration in her honor.
I’m open to ideas too. If there is a large surplus I will try to make another donation to the HD Program at UConn Health Center. By the way, if you have already made a donation to the causes listed on Kathy’s obituary (The UConn Foundation and New England Basset Hound Rescue) don’t worry about donating again. Also, if you are a subscriber to this blog feel free to friend me on Facebook too.
