CAREGIVING: I am one of those “Glass is rather large for its contents” people. I’m generally cautiously pessimistic. Things go right and wrong, so I try to be prepared.
Today Brooke, the nurse from the VNA, came for her weekly visit. She said that no further services would be authorized by Kathy’s health insurance after January 2nd. I’m not totally surprised but I hope they don’t stop everything else too. It shouldn’t affect Dilcia or the aide that will replace Su next week. But it means Melissa won’t be coming to help with showers any more.
And hey, maybe it means Kathy is all better and her Huntington’s is cured? Not so much. Actually it is probably that skilled nursing is probably overkill (pardon the expression) in Kathy’s case. Her condition is relatively stable. I wanted and received the physical therapy advice I needed. (I just need to do the exercises.) And we have enough other support at UConn and elsewhere. I’m grateful for the services we received. I’m not worried and I’m glad they waited until the day after Christmas to let me know. It is what it …was.
