MUSIC: This song is my personal addendum to Murphy’s Law. “Everything Takes Longer. Everything Costs More” is part of Lehndorff’s Law and the reason my design business is such a huge success. Oh, wait… But this song seems to be my mantra of the day.
Peter Lehndorff: guitar, vocals
Jeff Pevar: electric guitar
Dana Pomfret: vocals
Richard Downs: acoustic bass
Here is another version of the same song which was part of the Boston Acoustic Underground competition in the 1990s.
Everything Takes Longer

Jill became a Girl Scout, when she was just Thirteen.
She loved to wear uniforms and she looked good in green.
By the time she had had enough She had just turned Seventeen.
By a twist of fate, she was to late she was now a Marine.
Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
By the time Jill was Seventeen, She was twenty four.
Jack, he went down to Sears to buy a windshield wiper.
They told him that he needed new tires new brakes and an alternator.
They sold him a new battery. They sold him a new muffler.
They changed his plugs. And they changed his oil.
….. And one windshield wiper.
Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
By the time Jack was twenty one He was thirty four.
Bridge thing 1:
Time flies when you’re having fun.
Time flies when you’re having none.
Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
Well, Jack and Jill they were friends when they were very young.
They fell in love and they went to the prom. They were married before long.
Now they’re still pretty happy. No problems (More or less.)
But Jill takes a whole lot longer and Jack takes a whole lot less.
Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
By the time they were Thirtfy one, they were Forty four.
Bridge thing 2:
Well Jack and Jill went up a hill just to fetch a pail of water.
Mother Goose was on the loose and now they have four daughters.
Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
yadda, yadda, yadda fade thing.
Any proceeds or tips from this song will benefit the good work of the Huntington’s Disease program at the University of Connecticut Health Center where my wife Kathy gets treatment and I get support. UConn is doing stem cell research and helping patients and families like ours. Huntington’s Disease is the genetic disease that took the life of Woody Guthrie. It is neurodegenerative disorder that causes problems with emotional control, memory and movement, and eventually leads to death.
